Full name: RB Binding Protein 5.
RBBP5 is a core component of human mixed lineage leukemia protein-1 (MLL1) which is a member of the SET1 family of H3K4 methyltransferases and is frequently rearranged in acute leukemias,is involved in mono-,di- and trimethylation at Lys-4 of histone H3(1-4).RBBP5 interacts with MOF as a component of MLL1 to form a complex which both have a robust MLL1-mediated histone methyltransferase activity that can affect mono-,di-,and trimethylation of H3K4 and a MOF-mediated histone acetyltransferase activity that is specific for H4K16(2).

RBBP5 is an essential component of the MLL complex,is involved in mono-,di- and trimethylation on histone H3K4,is required for maintenance of Hox gene expression(1-4).RBBP5 is involved in the vicinity of Snail transcription start site during epithelial-mesenchymal transition in prostate cancer cell(5).RBBP5 is required for DNA replication as a member of the MLL-WDR5-RBBP5 methyltransferase complex that transfer methyl groups to histone at K4(H3K4),suppress DNA re-replication and chromosomal polyploidy(6).
