Introduction

Full name: Chromobox 5. CBX5 is a member of heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) family, contains two chromodomains including a C-terminal chromodomain which is also known as the chromo shadow domain (CSD)(1).CBX5 recognizes and binds trimethylated lysine 9 on histone H3 which is required for epigentic repression(2-4).CBX5 binds the Y41 region of H3 in a phosphorylation-dependent manner(5).

Function and Interaction

CBX5 recognizes and binds trimethylated H3K9 which is involved in epigentic repression of gene silencing via its chromo domain(1-2).CBX5 guides neuronal fate by timing E2F-targeted genes silencing during terminal differentiation(6).CBX5 plays an important role in the differentiation and angiogenic function of EPCs by regulating endothelial gene expression(7).CBX5 interacts with the inner nuclear membrane protein LBR (lamin B receptor),contributes to the association of the heterochromatin with the inner nuclear membrane(8).
